How a Blind Box Series Works
Each series publishes a roster of regular designs — often 6, 8, 9, or 12 characters — shown on the packaging. Most series also include one (or more) hidden, secret, or chase figures that appear less often. Common patterns across designer-toy brands:
- Regular designs share equal odds (e.g. 1/8 or 1/9 each).
- Hidden figures appear at much lower rates — often roughly 1/72, 1/96, or 1/144 per sealed box, depending on the series.
- A full case (typically 6–12 boxes) is factory-packed to cover the regular set with fewer duplicates; the hidden is still never guaranteed.

Odds are printed per sealed unit. A case improves your chance of completing regulars — it does not promise the chase.

Blind Box vs Mystery Box vs Blind Bag
- Blind box: known series, known price, unknown character from that roster. The standard designer-toy format.
- Mystery box: often a mixed assortment of unrelated items; quality and theme can vary widely. Not the same product category.
- Blind bag: usually smaller mass-market toys in soft packaging; less common for premium designer plush.
When collectors say “blind box,” they almost always mean the sealed series format with a published checklist — vinyl, PVC, plush, or BJD.
What Formats Exist Today

- Whole sets / cases — buy the published set size to complete regulars with less duplicate risk. Still no hidden guarantee.
- Secondary market / trades — once opened, specific faces trade among collectors. Useful when you want one design, not a lottery.
A practical rule: buy a single of any series whose regular designs you would keep even without the hidden. Chase odds are entertainment; regular design quality is the product.
